Preservation Technician
Job Description:
Material Preservation Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity and longevity of materials and equipment by implementing and overseeing preservation measures, often in accordance with specific project requirements and industry standards. This role includes inspecting materials, applying protective treatments, maintaining detailed records, and collaborating with various teams to ensure materials are properly preserved throughout their lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough visual and documented inspections of materials, equipment, and storage areas to identify potential issues like corrosion, damage, or deterioration.
- Apply appropriate preservation methods, including cleaning, drying, applying protective coatings (e.g., corrosion inhibitors), and using specialized packaging techniques.
- Maintain detailed records of material inspections, preservation activities, and any non-conformities, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
- Adhere to project specifications, industry standards, and company policies related to material preservation and safety.
- Collaborate with procurement, logistics, construction, and other teams to ensure materials are properly handled, stored, and preserved.
- Implement preventative measures to minimize the risk of material damage or deterioration during storage and handling.
- Participate in quality control checks and audits to ensure preservation efforts meet established standards.
- May provide training and guidance to other team members on preservation techniques and best practices.
Specific Tasks
- Applying corrosion inhibitors: Protecting metal surfaces from rust and corrosion.
- Installing and replacing protective covers: Shielding components from environmental factors.
- Manually rotating shafts: Preventing seizing and ensuring proper functioning of mechanical parts.
- Storing materials in appropriate conditions: Maintaining proper temperature, humidity, and cleanliness in storage areas.
- Using desiccant and packaging materials: Protecting sensitive electronics and components from moisture.
- Documenting preservation activities and findings.
- Ensuring availability of necessary supplies.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year experience of working in the same role
- Understanding material properties, corrosion prevention techniques, and preservation methods.
- Ability to identify and assess material condition and potential issues.
- Ability to effectively communicate with team members and other stakeholders.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records.
- Understanding and adhering to safety regulations and project requirements.
- Identifying and resolving issues related to material preservation.
